Aromatherapy has been touted as one of the most effective natural remedies for hair loss for good reason. It’s simple, easy and effective – and not at all difficult to access.

Aromatherapy oils that are considered effective for women with hair loss include:

Personally, I have found adding rosemary to my over-the-counter shampoos to be very effective.

It has a cooling, soothing feel to it that I like – and the fact that it might be helping promote hair growth is something I like even better.

You can create your own hair loss aromatherapy blend:

• Take 2 teaspoons of jojoba oil, and mix in your essential oils: rosemary (9 drops) and lavender (6 drops). Massage into the scalp and leave overnight. Rinse out in the morning, alternating between cold and warm water.

Make sure you do your homework before you use this technique, however – rosemary oil is not recommended for diabetics, women who are pregnant and those with high blood pressure or epilepsy.

Sesame oil wraps

Among the Asian community, sesame oil is considered one of the more effective ways to reduce hair loss and promote hair growth. It’s supposed to be nourishing and healing, and it’s simple to try.

Just purchase some pure sesame oil (you can find this in most Asian grocery stores or pharmacies, or even in the international foods sections of many large supermarkets). Wet your hair slightly, and massage the sesame oil into your scalp and through to the ends of your hair.

Chock-full of antioxidants, it is thought to benefit women with hair loss by inhibiting the androgen hormones that can contribute to hair loss.

Experts recommend that you consume at least three cups a day of green tea to have any effect on hair loss. Remember, while green tea is lower in caffeine than coffee or black tea, it still has a kick – so be prepared for a bit of a boost.

Bear in mind – most of the “evidence” for green tea as benefiting people with hair loss is anecdotal. One study with mice did demonstrate that green tea helped stop hair loss in the animals – which they attributed to the anti-inflammatory properties of the tea.

Even though its benefits for women with hair loss are debatable, green tea is widely respected and recommended for its general health benefits.
